Friendship & Fun

FRIENDSHIP AND FUN

WHAT IS IT?

A weekly gathering on FRIDAY where participants get together for fun activities, music, dance, arts and crafts, then tea and cake and a chance to chat and sing. Every week the theme changes so there will always be something to appeal

WHO CAN COME?

All ages are welcome but with extra provision for people who are experiencing health challenges in their lives – dementia, long term illness, mental health conditions or bereavement or living within difficult social situations

WHERE IS IT?

First half of gathering (Activity) is held in back hall of the Gillespie Centre, Biggar and then we move to café area for Tea Cake & Singing

GOOD TO KNOW:

Sessions are run by professional therapists and experienced volunteers. We do not charge as we have been fortunate in obtaining a grant from Clyde Windfarm (SSE). If you need transport to help you attend, please call us and we can arrange for a lift.

WHAT DO WE NEED FROM VOLUNTEERS:

Skilled volunteers are needed to help our participants engage with each other and the activity. Kindness, tolerance and compassion are a must have as well as any experience with working with people with life limiting illnesses including dementia. A good sense of humour and ability to have fun is also a must have! Tasks needed are setting out and clearing up arts materials, serving tea and coffee, listening and engaging with attendees.

Note: we will not be doing any personal care or toileting or lifting.  We ask any carers to remain within the Gillespie Centre albeit having a quiet coffee in café during activity time.

There may be some requirements for drivers to bring attendees to classes. Volunteers can sign up for days they can support so we do not overload anyone.
